STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 3-LIVE BLOG
The
Stanley Cup-hands down, the best trophy in all of sports
I will be live blogging Game 3 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals from beautiful Dayton, Ohio. Whenever there’s a big game, T-Bird and I are usually joined with the Von Waggoner’s. We’ll post updates throughout the night. (Sandwasher)
8:05- The game is on an actual channel tonight, NBC. So, this game has the potential of being watched by more than just us and the players’ families.
8:12- Since the Von Waggoner’s took there sweet ass time getting here, we’re just starting the game. I’ve said it a million times before, but it’s never truer than now-“God Bless Tivo!!”
8:13- Game still hasn’t started yet. I should have known better.
8:19- The National Anthems with Canadian Mounties.
8:21-The famous opera singer stops singing and lets the fans take over with O Canada-absolutely breathtaking. If you could find 100 Americans that know the Star-Spangled Banner, I would be shocked, let alone the entire arena.
8:23- Face Off 8:26- SCORE, SCORE, SCORE-Oilers on the board with a one-timer by Shawn Horcoff.
8:31- The action is The Fast and Furious-Tokyo Drift, so far. It’s hard for me to blog and watch the game.
8:32- Marcus asked who was in goal for Edmonton. Kelly, unaware of our conversation, says, “Marcus’ mom,” to T-Bird. Good times by all.
8:35- Edmonton power play.
8:37- Jussi Markkanen is in goal for Edmonton to set the record straight.
8:46- 5-3 man advantage for Edmonton8:48- ‘Canes held off the Oilers. Kelly predicted that would happen.
8:53- Edmonton’s 43rd Power Play of the night. If they do not cash in on one of these, there’s no way they’ll hold off the ‘Canes with this 1-0 lead.
8:58- Edmonton holds off a ‘Canes Power Play as the first period comes to a close. 1-0 Oilers.9:13- We just cut into our tasty cake from A Taste of Elegance. T-Bird and I splurged for it earlier in the day. I had the baker put “Hockey Night” on the cake. Yes, I am that dorky.
9:18-Game on! 9:19-Cam Ward ('Canes goalie) is doing somersaults and twists and turns. Unbelievable!!!9:26-Marcus-It's just not the same with announcers without mullets.
9:31-I'm back from taking the baby pup outside. She's lucky that I didn't miss anything.
9:38-During the commercial, the Oilers showed Mark Messier on the jumbo-tron. The entire crowd was going crazy as NBC came back from commercial. That’s a little different than Cincinnati Reds’ breaks where the team has Pepsi Products Boat race. That just doesn’t have the same appeal as Messier.
9:48-This is like football. The ref. blew the whistle too soon. The Oilers would have had a goal.
9:51 The 'Canes have had a ton of scoring chances but can't find the net.
9:53-At the end of 2, Oilers 1-0. Marcus-"If every game was this exciting, the NHL would be the most watched sport in the world.
10:05-We're back from Father of the Bride. I threw the ladies a bone just in case the game goes into overtime. I'm just trying to keep them on my side.
10:20-The announcers are fantastic. They are letting the play and the crowd do the talking. That's very rare in this day of loud mouth reporters and announcers (i.e. Around the Horn, Fox's baseball announcer Tim McCarver, and Reds' FSN announcer George Grande).
10:25-Rod Brind'Amour final gets the 'Canes on the board. I'm already smelling OT!
10:38-I just cleaned up my puppy's piss of the night. With 3 dogs, I've officially become my Uncle Tom.
10:39-Oilers just scored, maybe. Let's send it up to the review booth. God Bless instant replay!!!
10:41-Goal Counts, Ryan Smyth puts the Oilers up by one with 2 minutes and change left. The correct call was made on the ice. I'm glad we wasted 2 minutes determing that the right call was made.
10:45- EMPTY NET
10:47-The 'Canes go out in a flurry. Oilers win 2-1. The 'Canes lead the series 2 games to 1.
-I did the live blogging completely on the fly. I only edited the content for spelling afterwards. I'll see you next Monday for game 4, as the Oilers look to even the series. Goodnight everybody.
